Tuesday – January 24th – 1 John 4:1 -----
4:1) Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
GOD GIVES US THE INGREDIENTS FOR OUR DAILY BREAD, BUT HE EXPECTS US TO DO THE BAKING.*
Happy Tuesday to you! Yes, there may be snow in the forecast for this evening, but SunRise is already looking to the warmer weather of June. Vacation Bible School plans are ramping up in our Family Ministry department and we need you to help make VBS 2023 memorable for the kids in attendance. While some folks ponder what comes first, the chicken or the egg, it is never a conundrum which is first for VBS. Our first call out is for adult and youth volunteers to lead sessions, work in the kitchen, and interact with children as crew leaders. VBS sign up is accessible on the SunRise website and SunRise app under the “Events” tabs. Mark your summer calendars for June 19-23 and join us in ministry as we walk alongside the children of our community.
The entire fourth chapter of 1 John will expand on the two statements he made as he closed out chapter three. We are to believe in Jesus as the Son of God and to express our love for one another. Keeping these two commandments is evidence of a close personal relationship with God. John kicks off the ‘believing in Jesus” part by challenge every believer to guard against being gullible in spiritual matters. We are to constantly test the moral and spiritual implications of any new idea or teaching. Does what we hear agree with the core of scripture? Will it make me more life Jesus? Will require me to go against God’s word, God’s will, God’s way, or God’s when for my life and the lives of others. A sign of Christian maturity is that we test what we hear, and are not blown about by every new thought that comes along.
Blessings
