3:23) And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

IF EVERYONE TURNED GOSSIP INTO PRAYER, THERE WOULD BE NO MORE REASON FOR GOSSIP.*
A very blessed and peace-filled Sunday to you. I needed to read the inspirational thought for today. How easy it is to be tempted to “talk just a little” about someone else, even if in our mind we mean no harm. Remember gossip is on equal sin footing with God as murder or any other rebellion against God’s word, God’s will, God’s way, or God’s when. Yes, the human consequences are how we, from our perspective, judge the seriousness of sin, but God views all sin as detestable, and all sin creates a separation between Him and us. So, to follow the encouragement and wisdom of this inspirational thought, when we can replace sin with prayer the temptation to sin is eliminated. What a great thing to celebrate!
In our pick verse today, John continues his teaching on how we should be confident in the eternal assurance we have as being a committed follower of Jesus. In this verse John speaks to both sides of what it means to follow the commandments of Jesus. Frist, we respond to Jesus’ invitation to turn away from our natural sinful human nature, and instead believe in His power to remove the penalty of our sinful actions. Then secondly, as a result of being born again in Jesus, we find the power to love others regardless of what our opinion of them may be. Remember, God loved us when we were rebelling against Him, and when we were unliked by others. Shouldn’t we extend the same kind of love that God has shown to us?
