Sunday – January 15th – 1 John 3:10-12 -----
3:10) In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.
11)For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,
12) not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IT IS POSSIBLE TO LEARN FROM AN ENEMY THINGS WE CAN’T LEARN FROM A FRIEND.*
Blessings to you on this Sunday! My hope is that you find time today to spend some quality time with God and if possible surrounded by other believers. One of the biggest things we can do as a follower of Jesus is to stay connected through worship and fellowship. Our inspirational thought for today needs to be embraced for the truth it contains about how we can learn insights about others from those that we may disagree with. However, the caution with this inspirational thought is that we also need to ensure that we don’t let negative influences infect us and our spiritual walk. I think it would be safe to say that some “enemies” come as a result of misunderstandings, while other “enemies” are opposed to the Gospel and our work for the Kingdom of Heaven. The secret is to discover which is which and learn accordingly.
In our pick verses today John introduces a new section of teaching where he will focus on the commandment that we are to love as God loves. The marks of a believer are easily distinguished by their actions. Disciples of Jesus are markedly different that adherents of the devil. True love for another person is the most obvious mark of a Christian and the sign that one is righteous before God. John’s first argument in this section is that love has always been God’s nature and His requirement for fully committed followers of Jesus. We humans were created in the image of God for the purpose of a loving relationship with our Heavenly Father. It was God’s love for us that saved us from a permanent separation because of our sinful actions. So, it is not a stretch to expect that God desires us to love like He loves.
Blessings
