In today’s pick verses John builds from talking about a disciple’s purity to the opposite action which is sin. He lifts up three reasons why a fully committed follower of Jesus does not live a life of sin: (1) All sin, every sin, even the smallest sin, is rebellion and a complete disregard for God’s will and law. (2) Jesus’ purpose was to come into our world and through His death take away the penalty of our sin. (3) Because Jesus was God in the flesh there was no sin in Him. When we make a commitment to follow Jesus we are committing to walk in His steps of righteousness and obedience. With each step we take, we are better able to resist the temptations directed at us from the devil.
