1:9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WE SHOULD HAVE REGULAR CHECKUPS TO AVOID TRUTH-DECAY.*

Welcome to Wednesday. Today is the first day of winter and from the sounds of the forecast in O’Fallon winter is going to take its role seriously. I am sure some folks are already wondering about how the weather might affect in-building Christmas Eve services at SunRise. Unless we get two feet of snow dumped on us on Saturday, we will be here for all five services scheduled throughout the day. Temperatures are predicted to be on the bitter cold side accompanied by high winds and uncomfortable wind chills. But the heater will be on, the room will be cozy, and the worship will be fit for the King. If your concerned about your safety, we certainly understand and would encourage you to take advantage of the SunRise online campus live-stream at 3pm Saturday. Oh, be sure to download the SunRise Church App so you can “check-in” to let us know you are worshipping with us.

In our pick verse today, John counters the false teachers’ heresies that we humans are not by nature sinful people. John shares one of the greatest verses in the Bible – that when we own up to our sin, God is faithful and just and quick to forgive us of our rebellion. By God’s grace not only are we forgiven we are also completely cleansed of our unrighteousness. God’s grace then empowers us with the Holy Spirit to help us resist repeat offenses. Adam Clarke, prominent English theologian sums up this verse; “sin exists in the soul after two modes or forms: (1) in guilt, which requires forgiveness or pardon, (2) in pollution, which requires cleansing. Guilt, to be forgiven, must be confessed; and pollution, to be cleansed, must also be confessed. In order to get a clean heart, we must know and feel its depravity, acknowledge and deplore it before God, in order to be fully sanctified”. Unacknowledged and unrepented sin leaves us separated from God. God is faithful and just to forgive when we confess and desire to turn away from our sin.

Blessings
