Tuesday – December 20th – 1 John 1:8     -----

1:8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
HOSPITALS SHOULD NOT HAVE A MONOPOLY ON HOSPITALITY.*

Hello Tuesday! Our inspirational thought for today is one those smilers that turns a play on words to make a point. While it is a little corny, ok may a lot, there is much truth in the underlying intent. Especially with Christmas Eve coming at the end of this week, the opportunity for SunRise folks (or whatever church you serve at) to pull out all the stops to be hospitable to folks at each of the services should be high on our “to do” lists. Many other churches tend to leave the hospitality to the officially sanctioned hospitality team. That is great, but visitors to Wal-Mart expect the front door greeters to be friendly because that is their job. What really impresses is when just another person in the pew is extending heartfelt hospitality. And it is not just for Christmas Eve, but for every service throughout the year. I would love for SunRise to be known as the friendliest church in town. And you can help make all the difference!

In our pick verse today, John zeros in on addressing the second claim of the false teachers in his day. These false teachers were insisting that people did not have a natural tendency toward sin, in other words they had “no sin”, and as a result they were incapable of sinning. This idea is at best self-deception and a worst a bold-face lie. The false teachers refused to take sin and the consequences of sin seriously. They wanted to be considered Christians, but they saw no need to confess and repent. These false teachers had deemphasized the reality of going against God’s word, God’s way, God’s will, and God’s when and encouraged a do whatever you want mentality. For them the death of Jesus did not mean much to them because they didn’t think they needed it. Instead of repenting and being purified by Christ’s blood, they were encouraging sin among believers. In this life we are always capable of sinning, so we should never let our guard down for even a moment. Even when we hear things that make sin okay to do.

Blessing
