Sunday – December 4th – 2 Peter 3:1-2 -----
3:1) This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory.
2 I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE BEST FORM OF SPIRITUAL EXERCISE IS TO TOUCH THE FLOOR REGULARLY WITH YOUR KNEES.*
Happy Sunday to you! What a relevant inspirational thought for us today as we prepare to gather to worship God. A big, but often under-utilized, part of worshiping God is to be engaged in conversation with Him. Being “in” worship from this prospective is not restricted to just Sunday mornings for an hour (or online for an hour) but is part of our every breath. In fact, praying is both a spiritual exercise and is truly the purist form of worshiping God. As we pause today from busy seasonal activities to “spend” time with God may we include deep prayer as part of our honoring the one who created us from scratch.
In our pick verses today, we begin Peter’s final chapter in this second epistle to early believers in Asia Minor. The first portion of this chapter is used by Peter to address one of the false teachings circulating about Jesus. He will spend nine packed verses describing and defending the certainty of Jesus’ second coming. I find it interesting that the devil continues to use some of the same attacks today against basic orthodoxy Christian beliefs that were used in the first century. I guess each new generation is willing to listen to the dribble of the devil. In these opening verses Peter reminds his readers of the unchanging and connected truths as taught throughout history by the prophets, apostles, and the Lord Jesus Himself. Peter encourages all believers to allow the Holy Spirit to direct each of us to think clearly and use the commonsense God has given us as His creation to discern truth from fiction.
Blessings
Pastor Jim
