Thursday – December 1st – 2 Peter 2:18-19 -----
2:18) They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.
19)They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IF YOUR BEHAVIOR DOES NOT REFLECT YOUR BELIEFS, HOW VALUABLE ARE THOSE BELIEFS?*
Hello Thursday!! And Hello to December!! Yes, we are in the final month of 2022. Here is to a hope you have your 2023 (not 2033) calendars all ready to go. Our inspirational thought for today is great for self-reflection consideration. However, the challenge with self-reflection is that we look at ourselves through the looking glass of what we think should be, and not always through mirror that reflects our true self. Maybe consulting with a trusted family member or friend who can help point out any discrepancies between our statements of belief and our actions will give us insight into how we often fail to see our true selves. Many people find it easier to say what we want others to hear, but much more difficult to live our lives under the microscope of truth. How best do you self-reflect on things in your life?
In our pick verses for today Peter again holds nothing back in his assessment of those who intentionally lead people away from the truth of God. The false words uttered by these teachers could persuade even the strongest of believers to turn from the faith. Their false claims appealed to the base desires of humanity by suggesting that they could indulge in their self-centered passions and lusts of their hearts because Jesus has given believers liberty from the laws. But the teachers themselves were slaves of moral corruption and were dragging down all who would listen to them. They had given into the tempting of the devil and thus allowed themselves to be overcome by sin. When we allow ourselves to turn from God’s word, God’s way, God’s will, and God’s when we will find ourselves face to face with the devil. That my friends is the first step on the proverbial highway to hell.
Blessings
