Saturday – November 26th – 2 Peter 2:10-11     -----

2:10) He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority. These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beings without so much as trembling.
11) But the angels, who are far greater in power and strength, do not dare to bring from the Lord a charge of blasphemy against those supernatural beings.

LEGALISM IS BOUND TO PRODUCE PRIDE OF HEART.*

Good Saturday to you! This weekend signals the beginning of the Advent season in the church. The time between now and Christmas Day is known as a season of preparation for, and in expectation of, the celebrated birth of Jesus. This year at SunRise we are going back to the good old days and will be focusing on Christmas through the eyes of child. Remember back when you were a child and innocence and excitement filled you with unbridled anticipation for all the sights, sounds, and smells Christmas. Everything was bigger than life, and as a child you didn’t have a worry in the world as you counted down the days until it was time open the presents under the tree. Now as adults we factor in all the agony and preparation required for decorating, shopping, meal fixing, social gatherings, and extended family dynamics, all within the worry of what will the weather be like at any given moment. You can see why so many adults as they grow old sound more like Scrooge than Tiny Tim. I am excited that this year that God has invited us to approach the beauty of His greatest gift through the eyes of a Child. Join us inbuilding or online to recapture the fun of your childhood.

In our pick verses today, Peter picks back up from his thoughts in verse three to continue warning his readers about the destructiveness of the false teachers of his day. The false teachers throughout the Roman Empire were characterized by Peter as being consumed with sexual lust and a total rejection of God’s authority. Such action was a merely a reflection of the culture of the Roman Empire in its heyday. Some versions of scripture translate “supernatural beings” to a more modest render of “dignitaries” which is probably a reference to the apostles and their apostolic authority. Peter goes on to say that these self-absorbed, arrogant false teachers were not immune from criticizing people that even the angels themselves would not speak against. Peter has no use at all for these demonic inspired false teachers of the Gospel. But more about that in the coming days!

Blessings
