2:3) In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ALL WE CAN REALLY TAKE WITH US IS WHAT WE HAVE GIVEN AWAY.*
Happy Thursday and Happy Thanksgiving to you! Today marks the unofficial beginning to a six-week stretch of wishing people Happy-Merry-Happy as part of our greetings. Today we celebrate the many blessings God has bestowed up us throughout our lives. For each person this can be different and varied in order of thankfulness. Families, finances, jobs, living situations, physical/mental/emotional health all can fluctuate up and down on our own scale of being blessed. However, the one thing that must always sit atop our list is being thankful for God’s unconditional love given to us through Jesus. We read in the Daily Walk Bible last weekend that God paid an enormous price for our salvation – the death of Jesus (God in the flesh). I sometimes wonder if we give the enormous price paid for us the proper amount of consideration it is due, or do we simply shrug our shoulders and take it for granted. Today is the day for expressing thankfulness for our blessings. I pray you have lots to be thankful for, but I especially pray that you have the most important thing to be thankful for – Jesus.
In our pick verse for today, Peter’s indictment of the motives and agendas of false teachers ties in nicely to our inspirational thought. When we leave this earth, we will take nothing with us to our eternal spot expect what we have done for others. Human greed, or covetousness, was the motive of these false teachers, deception was their method, and judgement would be their reckoning. Their greed was either (or both) their desire to gain financially from the lure of their teachings, or to grow a large following through the human-centered appeal of their false gospel. Either way, what they say or do is not hidden from the eyes of God. They have created their own destruction and eternal judgement. As we celebrate Thanksgiving let us remember that the opposite of greed and covetousness is generosity and serving. That is the example God has given to us – while we were yet sinners Christ Jesus died for our sins. How might we best share the love of God with others today and throughout this extended holiday season?
