9) But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Happy Friday my friends. The end of the week has arrived and almost time to catch our breaths from a busy and hopefully a fruitful week of service on behalf of the Kingdom of Heaven. Part of our busyness has been in following the Old Testament prophets who have shared words from over twenty-seven hundred years ago that still have a strong sense of truth today. Our inspirational thought is timeless, regardless of when we read them. The words remind us that a fully committed follower of Jesus is on point twenty-four hours a day. Doing good in the eyes of God is always something that is needed. In Amos’ day, as in our day, we can be a light in a world of darkness. What can you do on this Friday that will help point someone else to want to know Jesus?
In our pick verse today, Peter focuses on the positive impact a follower of Jesus can make in their little corner of the world. Once again Peter mentions that Christians are considered the priesthood of all believers. In the Old Testament, people could not approach God directly. A priest acted as intermediary between God and sinful humanity. With Jesus’ victory on the cross, that pattern changed forever. Now we can come directly into God’s presence without fear, and we are given the added responsibility of bringing others to Him through our witness. When we are united with Jesus as members of His body, we join in His priestly work of reconciling God and people. What a great thing to have on our resume. Now is a great time to live like the holy people God has created us to be in this life.
