2:12) So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.
13) For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Good Saturday and great weekend to you! Hope your plans this weekend includes some time for both rest and relaxation sandwiched around some fun times with family, friends, or even self. Our inspirational thought for today is one of those “ouch” questions. When I am reminded of the fullness of how we are to pray I immediately do an inventory of what my latest prayers have included. Actually, I think the formers of this inspirational thought were somewhat gentle in suggesting we “only” give God instructions in our prayers. Most of the time I feel like I am making demands of God while holding my faith hostage. It could easily sound like my prayers put God on the spot and unless answered perfectly to my wish my faith would easily by lost. I plan on focusing on being in a serving attitude next time I pray. How about you?
In our pick verses today, James wraps up this sub-section on warning us to not be partial or prejudice in our treatment of others. As Christians we are saved by God’ free gift of grace through faith, and not by keeping the law. But as Christians we are also required to obey the teachings of Jesus. God’s grace does not cancel our duty to obey Him; instead, it gives our obedience a new basis. The law is no longer an external set of rules, but it is a “law that sets you free”. One we will joyfully and willingly carry out, because we love God and have within us the power of His Holy Spirit. James makes it very clear that when we withhold forgiveness either from or to others after having received it ourselves through God’s grace, we show that we don’t understand or appreciated God’s mercy toward us.
