Friday – June 24th – James 2:10-11     -----

2:10)     For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
11) For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

Happy Friday to you! Today concludes our 2022 edition of Vacation Bible School. VBS is such a fun and exciting time and this year was no different. The joy of hearing kids singing praises to God and learning each day how much they are loved by the one who created them. Thursdays each year is the day when the good news of the gospel is presented for all in attendance. Yes, there are lots of fun, laughter, joy, and fellowship, but a VBS week without an opportunity to meet Jesus would be like a day without sunshine. Please be praying for the young people who yesterday started a journey of a lifetime with Jesus.

In our pick verses today, James, in typical James fashion, pulls no punches in pointing out the fate of those who fail to follow the word, will, and way of God. In a purely societally sense breaking one commandment is not as bad in its overall effects as breaking all ten. But from the Christian perspective the many commandments within the law collectively represent the singular will of God that we should above all else love our neighbor as ourselves. If we purposefully disobey any commandment of God, we commit sin and are out of harmony with God’s will for our life. This disharmony is only restored through the sacrifice of Jesus that takes away our sin. We are saved by God’s grace when we accept what God has done for us and what we could not do for ourselves. It is therefore only right and just that God expects consistent obedience from those who have made a commitment to follow Jesus.
