Happy Tuesday y’all. What beautiful weather we have experienced these past few days in O’Fallon. I hope wherever you are the weather has also been a blessing to you. For those interested in the progress of the water main break and repairs at the church, today begins the “unearthing” of parking lot asphalt in an attempt to locate the source of the break. I am not sure if the plumbing contractor uses some high-tech device to locate the break or just a good old fashion forked divining rod, but no matter the method our prayers are that the first spot selected will be the only spot needed. Your prayers are appreciated for a simple and quick repair.
In our pick verse today, Paul summarizes Timothy’s role in ensuring that the truth is always preached, taught, and discussed under his leadership. Paul’s warnings and encouragement are as relevant to us today as it was to Timothy nearly two thousand years ago. We who seek to share with others the truth about God cannot get distracted and carried away by every new and untested idea that comes along. Instead, preach the word of God. As an evangelist, tell others about the Jesus who has changed your life and then invite them to allow Jesus to transform their lives. The pushback so often heard about being a “witness” for Jesus is that people feel like they don’t’ know scripture well enough or that they have no formal theological training. In reality the first apostles were far from experts in scripture or theology, but they knew in their hearts the difference Jesus had made in their lives. Until we can claim our own passion for what Jesus has done for us, our witness will be silent because of a misconstrued idea of what we think we must know before we can effectively share the Gospel. Friends find someone today and tell your story of Jesus.
