1:8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,

Happy Sunday! What a great day for us to worship God and give thanks for our many blessings. This weekend we begin a new teaching series – “Eccentric” – and with it our annual fall commitment campaign. Membership vows at SunRise include a commitment to prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Each year we celebrate the opportunity to give God thanks through the giving of ourselves in each of these areas of spiritual connection. You don’t have to be a member of SunRise or even attend SunRise to take time and reflect on your commitment to serve the Kingdom of Heaven as a follower of Jesus. When Christians everywhere turn more of their focus towards God, and away from the world, we will experience the beginnings of powerful transformation of lives, communities, nations, and cultures as people turn to God.
In our pick verses today, Paul continues to encourage Timothy to live fully into his callings as a minister of the Gospel. The amazing thing about Paul’s words is that they are relevant to both pastors and believers throughout all the ages. Please don’t skip over sections that on the surface seem to only be directed to church leaders, when in fact all of us have the responsibility of leading someone through our observed examples of living. Timothy man have been tempted to be ashamed to witness for Jesus or to associate with Paul because he did not want to experience the sufferings the apostle had suffered. Paul assures Timothy that those who suffer for the Gospel find God’s power more than adequate for every situation faced. We have this same power and assurance available to us when we have the opportunity to witness to others about the unconditional love and forgiveness offered through Jesus.
