4:6 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
HATING OTHERS IS LIKE BURNING DOWN YOUR HOUSE TO GET RID OF A RAT.*
We have arrived at yet another blessed Sunday. Oh, what a joy to celebrate the importance of a day set aside for the worship of God. I pray that you will find plenty of time to sit, soak, and then soar from time spent with God. I also must make comment on our inspirational thought for today. Really not much need to say anything profound because the sentence itself speaks volumes about our sometimes lack of wisdom in dealing with difficult people or difficult situations. Leaning into the wisdom of the Holy Spirit is the best defense against the extremes mentioned in this thought. I need to practice taking a deep breath and seeking God’s peace before I needlessly strike any matches.
In our pick verses for today, Paul continues setting forth practical wisdom for Timothy in leading the church in Ephesus. Although season in the faith, his being young in years, still presented challenges for Timothy as the spiritual leader of this growing church. Paul encourages Timothy to remain firm in his teachings as the way to stand up against the false teachers and false doctrines invading the church. It is noteworthy that Paul equates the potential for goodness to be formed through faithfulness to Jesus and not through seeking the approval of humans.
The qualities necessary for leaders in the church has not changed since the days of Timothy and neither has the message of God’s word. We humans often seek subtle ways to manipulate and tweak scripture to fit our needs instead of seeking transformation in our lives to match God’s instructions for disciple living. Paul’s instructions to us would be hold fast to the truth and we will be blessed by God.
