Monday – June 7, 2021 – 1 Thessalonians 2:14-16 -----
2:14 For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans,
15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are contrary to all men,
16 forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

Welcome to Monday! As I look at the calendar on this first Monday in June, I am excited to see that in two weeks from today we kick-off VBS. While all the kid’s spots are filled, we still have opportunity for your help and support in providing some of the VBS supplies. Click the link below to the online sign-up page to provide some of the needed items for VBS. Thanks for your help and support of this great summer ministry for kids of all ages.
In our pick verses today, Paul moves deeper into our current topic of suffering as a disciple. In the lives of the early church, suffering persecution showed that they were truly part of God’s people and that their faith was genuine. The persecutors whom Paul refers to in verse sixteen had sinned to their fullest capacity by continually opposing God’s people and the work of the Gospel. Paul reminds the Thessalonians that persecution does not go unnoticed by God, and that God’s judgement on relentless enemies of the gospel is certain. And from this judgement, true believers are delivered through their faith in Jesus. Suffering for the sake of the Gospel is unavoidable if we are making an impact for the Kingdom of Heaven. If we pose a threat to the plans of the evil one than we should expect pushback. If we are not being harassed by the devil than maybe we should reexamine the quality of our work and service to the Lord.
