3:18 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

Welcome to Friday! The weekend is almost here for those who a traditional work week. With this particular weekend comes the first of two opportunities to explore what it means to be a member at SunRise. On Saturday morning we host an in-building class and next Wednesday (5/19) evening there will be an online zoom gathering. Today we continue exploring Paul’s teaching from the book of Colossians on the presence of Christlikeness in the Christian home. The submission of the wife (v18) is balanced by the command for the husband to love her with his whole being. He is not to force her into submission by being bitter or harsh, but to love her in the name of the Lord. Such love goes far beyond romantic affection or sexual desire. It is the kind of love that made Christ willing to die a horrible death on the cross for each of us. When a husband is willing to lay down is life for his wife and family, he is living into the role God designed for the Christian home. Such mutual love and respect can transform the family into a solid and strong spirit filled Christian home. This type of love can only come from a heart that is dedicated and committed to an intentional growth in their Christian faith. As the spiritual leader of the home, the husband’s love for wife and family is a reflection of his connection with Christ in his own life. Men, what must we do today in our spiritual walk to be better husbands, fathers, grandfathers, or role models?
