Friday – April 30th – Colossians 2:16-17    -----

2:16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Friday’s inspirational thought from the Daily Walk Bible:
BETTER TO MASTER ONE MOUNTAIN THAN A THOUSAND FOOTHILLS.*

Give yourself a pat on the back because you have made it to Friday and to the last day in the month of April 2021. Today marks the completion of one-third of this year. As we journey through this 121st day of 2021 how are you doing with your New Years resolutions? Do you even remember what you set as personal goals way back on December 31st? SunRise’s emphasis for this year focuses on personal spiritual growth. Each of us are encouraged to add disciplines to our daily lives that enhances our discipleship journey and improves our ability to share the Gospel.  With two-thirds of the year still ahead of us it is not too late to establish new discipleship growth goals.

Today in our pick verses from Colossians chapter two, Paul introduces a new topic that will carry us through the end of this chapter. Today we begin teachings on the reason to chose Jesus over legalistic rules created by human agendas. Paul is quick to point out that since Jesus has triumphed over all evil powers there is no reason for us to be judged by others through the lens of limited human understanding. Paul instructs the Colossians not to pay attention to those who seek to impose on them strict religious rules about food or drink, or outside voices telling them that their ceremonial feasts will make them more spiritual. Such ceremonies are only a shadow whereas the reality of righteousness is only found in and through Jesus. For the Colossian believers in the first century the pagan food sacrifices were a big deal, for us today not so much. But the same deception exists today in practices that are not grounded in scripture or that stand against the word of God. We must always be on our guard and we most devote our time to growing in the knowledge of God’s way, God’s will, and God’s word.

Blessings
